We live in extraordinary times. Easy to say, but I think one could make a statistically sound case when it comes to US politics.
The position of Speaker of the US House of Representatives is, for reasons mysterious to me, the third in the line of succession as head of state. We make a big deal about the vice presidency but no one gets too worried about the speakership.
But the speakership is now empty. Who’s next, if (goddess forbid) something were to happen to President Biden?
Vice President Kamala Harris
Speaker of the House of Representatives N/A
President pro tempore of the Senate Patty Murray
Secretary of State Antony Blinken
Two women are now first in line, followed by a superb diplomat who also plays the guitar and promotes musical diplomacy when not dealing with war and famine. Enjoy!
